Documents have been sent misusing the name of Berrymans Lace Mawer LLP in respect of a supposed loan transfer.

What is the scam?

Documents have been sent misusing the name of Berrymans Lace Mawer LLP in respect of a supposed loan transfer.

The documents seen by the SRA misuse the name of a closed firm (see below) and provide a postal address of an open firm (see below). The documents are signed by 'Gilson Aveline' who is referred to as a 'Senior Partner' at 'Berrymans Solicitors LLP'. The telephone number of '+44 161 3940532' and an email address of 'info@berrymanssolicitors.com' is provided. The documents misuse the postal address of an open firm (see below).

The SRA understands that a website is operating at 'www.berrymanssolicitors.com'. The website also misuses the postal address of an open firm (see below) and provides the above contact details.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a solicitor by the name of 'Gilson Aveline'.

Any business or transaction through the above telephone number, email address or website address is not undertaken by a firm or a solicitor authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorised and regulated a genuine firm of solicitors called Berrymans Lace Mawer LLP which closed on 5 January 2023. The firm used the website address www.blmlaw.com. Berrymans Lace Mawer LLP was acquired by Clyde & Co LLP. Clyde & Co LLP has a branch office address at 2 New Bailey Square, Stanley Street, Salford, M3 5GS. Its contact number is 0161 236 2002.

Clyde & Co LLP is believed to have no connection to the above correspondence.
