Warning: Letter misusing the name and details of Howell-Jones LLP

A letter has been sent to a member of the public misusing the name, postal address and SRA number of Howell-Jones LLP in relation to a change of tenancy.

What is the scam?

A letter has been sent misusing the name of a genuine firm (see below for details of the genuine firm) on behalf of a company called 'Ari Car Services Ltd' in relation to a change of tenancy.

The letter was sent from 'Howell Jones Solicitors' and misuses the postal address and SRA number of Howell-Jones LLP (see below). The letter also confirms a contact telephone number of 08000119854.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates Howell-Jones LLP. The firm's office address is 75 Surbiton Road, Kingston Upon Thames, KT1 2AF, England. The firms SRA number is 463477. The firms genuine contact telephone number is 02085495186.

Howell-Jones LLP has confirmed that it has no connection to the above letter.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means.
