Warning: WhatsApp messages and documents purporting to be from 'Law Trust Ltd' or 'Law Trust Company Ltd' misusing the name of Malik Saeed

12 December 2025

WhatsApp messages and documents have been sent purporting to be from 'Law Trust Ltd' or 'Law Trust Company Ltd' misusing the name of a genuine solicitor Malik Saeed in relation to the recovery of funds.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that WhatsApp messages and documents have been sent to a member of the public purporting to be from 'Law Trust Ltd' or 'Law Trust Company Ltd'.

The correspondence seen by the SRA includes documents entitled 'Power of Attorney' and 'Suspending a non-British investment file'. The correspondence and documents include the telephone numbers '44 7922 436 298', '44 2045 240 392' and '+44 2038 563 772', as well as the website address 'www.law-trust.com'. The website 'www.law-trust.com' is no longer operational and appears to have been removed by the domain hosts.

The documents provided to the recipient also include supposed 'stamped' documentation, which misuses the name and SRA number of a genuine solicitor (please see genuine details below).

The WhatsApp messages seen by the SRA have been sent from the phone number '+44 7514 141 985'.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a firm of solicitors called 'Law Trust Ltd' or 'Law Trust Company Ltd'.

Any business or transaction through 'Law Trust Company Ltd' or 'Law Trust Ltd', the telephone numbers or website 'www.law-trust.com' is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised or regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Malik Asim Saeed, whose SRA number is 230056. Malik Asim Saeed is employed by the firm of solicitors MTG Solicitors.

The genuine Malik Asim Saeed has confirmed that he has no connection with 'Law Trust Ltd' or 'Law Trust Company Ltd', the telephone numbers, website or correspondence referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
