Warning: Misuse of the name of 'Anna Therese Moran' and 'ABR Solicitors Limited'

The name of a genuine solicitor as well as the name and details of a genuine firm is being misused in letters sent to third parties.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that the identity of genuine solicitor (see below) is being misused to send letters of a various nature to third parties all of which include the genuine firm's name and contact details (see below).

The correspondence has the SRA number of the genuine solicitor (see below), a fraudulent signature alleging to be the genuine solicitor (see below) and a stamp including both the name of the genuine solicitor (see below) and genuine firm (see below) with the genuine firms address.

One of the letters has an email address of 'annatheresemoran@gmail.com' in the signature.

Any business or transaction through the email address 'annatheresemoran@gmail.com' are not undertaken by any individual or firm authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called ABR Solicitors Limited based at Britannia Chambers, 4 Oxford Place, Leeds, LS1 3AXand its SRA ID is 542045. Their telephone number is 03336009222 and the email is enquiries@abrsolicitors.com. Emails from the genuine firm use the genuine domain '@abrsolicitors.com' (note the 's' after the word 'solicitor').

The SRA also regulates a genuine solicitor called Anna Therese Moran. The SRA number for the genuine solicitor is 507536.

ABR Solicitors Limited have confirmed that they do not have any genuine connection to the email address referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
