Warning: Email claiming to be from 'Leon Scott Kennedy' of 'Empire Consultancy & Solution', 'Empire Solicitor & Consultation' and 'Empire Solicitors'

An email has been sent claiming to be from 'Leon Scott Kennedy' of 'Empire Consultancy & Solution', 'Empire Solicitor & Consultation' and 'Empire Solicitors' in relation to a supposed ongoing investigation into financial crime and recovery of funds.

What is the scam?

The SRA has seen an email that has been sent claiming to be from 'Leon Scott Kennedy' of 'Empire Consultancy & Solution'. The name of the supposed company is used interchangeably and is also referred to as 'Empire Solicitor & Consultation'. The email address and website referred to in the email also contains the name 'Empire Solicitors'.

The email falsely claims to be sent in relation to an ongoing investigation into a significant international financial crime in which the recipient's name is implicated. The sender of the email claims that the company is working in cooperation with various international fraud task forces and international regulatory bodies.

The email claims to offer restitution services to victims of financial fraud including, identifying and securing unlawfully obtained funds. The email encourages the recipient to contact 'Leon Scott Kennedy' or 'Empire Consultancy & Solution' if they have any questions or believe their identity may have been misappropriated.

The correspondence also includes an address of 'Office No. 301, Jhumat House, 160 London Road, Barking, United Kingdom, IG11 8BB.' as well as the email address of 'leon.scott.kennedy@empiresolicitors.com' in the email signature.

The telephone numbers '+44 7877 278320' and '+447441941958' are also included in the email signature.

The email also provided a website address of 'http://empiresolicitors.eu/'.

Any business or transactions involving 'Leon Scott Kennedy', 'Empire Consultancy & Solution', 'Empire Solicitor & Consultation', 'Empire Solicitors', the above address, email, phone numbers, or website are not undertaken by any individual or firm authorised or regulated by the SRA.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a solicitor called 'Leon Scott Kennedy' or any firms called 'Empire Consultancy & Solution', 'Empire Solicitor & Consultation' or 'Empire Solicitors'.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA does authorise and regulate firms at the address of Jhumat House, 160 London Road, Barking, United Kingdom, IG11 8BB, the firms are not called ‘Empire Consultancy & Solution’ or ‘Empire Solicitor & Consultation’ or ‘Empire Solicitors’.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
