Warning: Emails and WhatsApp messages misusing the name of Adam Kudryl and Charlotte Hugo and the name and details of Harper James Limited

Emails and WhatsApp messages from Adam Kudryl and Lottie (Charlotte) Hugo and the name and details of Harper James Limited in relation to various documents including a 'Non-Disclosure Agreement'.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been advised that emails and WhatsApp messages have been sent to companies and members of the public falsely claiming to be from 'Lottie Hugo' in relation to a 'Non-Disclosure Agreement' (NDA). The messages misuse the names of genuine solicitors (see below) and the name and details of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).

The emails were sent from 'lottie.hugo@harperjames-global.com' and 'adam.kudryl@harperjames-global.com'. The emails include a telephone number of '+44 7537 168652' and an address of '10 Lower Thames Street, London, EC3R 6AF, United Kingdom'.

WhatsApp messages have been sent from the telephone numbers listed below:

  • '0208 040 4656'
  • '07457 421721'
  • '07576 517068'
  • '07537 168652'
  • '07537 184760'

Any business or transaction through the above email addresses and telephone numbers is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Harper James Limited (SRA ID 612099). The genuine firm uses the email domain @harperjames.co.uk and the genuine firm's website is https://harperjames.co.uk/. Its head office is 5th Floor Cavendish House, 39-41 Waterloo Street, Birmingham, B2 5PP and their contact number is 0800 689 1700.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Charlotte Hugo, whose SRA number is 573247. Charlotte Hugo is a Solicitor at the genuine firm Harper James Limited.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Adam Kudryl, whose SRA number is 337659. Adam Kudryl is a Solicitor at the genuine firm Harper James Limited.

The genuine firm Harper James Limited and the genuine solicitors have confirmed they have no connection to the WhatsApp messages or emails referred to in the alert above.

The SRA also authorises and regulates a number of other law firms whose offices are 10 Lower Thames Street, London, EC3R 6AF, none of whom are believed to be connected with the emails referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
