Warning: Emails misusing the name of Robertsons Solicitors, a trading name of Robertsons Legal Limited

Emails have been sent misusing the name of Robertsons Solicitors regarding an alleged inheritance.

What is the scam?

Correspondence has been sent from 'Robert Hildyard' purporting to work for a genuine firm of solicitors (see below) in relation to an alleged inheritance. The author requested payment of money to facilitate the release of estate funds. Accompanying one email was a fee structure document bearing the name and logo of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below)

Correspondence was sent from the email address 'RobhildyardLawsociety@proton.me'. and included a postal address of '11th Floor, Thomas More Building, The Royal Courts of Justice, Strand, London WC2A 2LL', and the telephone number '+44 20 8040 0543'.

The SRA does not authorise and regulate a genuine solicitor called 'Robert Hildyard'.

Any business or transaction through the above contact details is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Robertsons Legal Limited (SRA ID 625915). The genuine firm uses the email domain ending @robsols.co.uk Its head office address is 6 Park Place, Cardiff, South Glamorgan, CF10 3RS and its genuine telephone number is 0292 023 7777.

The genuine firm has confirmed it has no connection to the correspondence or fee structure document referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
