Decision details
Who does this decision relate to?
Hassan Ali, who is not a solicitor, was employed by Minster Law Limited whose head office is at Kingfisher House, Peel Avenue, Denby Dale Road, Wakefield.
Summary of decision
The SRA has disqualified Mr Ali from holding any of the following roles in law firms regulated by the SRA:
- Head of Legal Practice
- Head of Finance and Administration
- A manager
- An employee
Reasons/basis
The facts of the case
Mr Ali is not a solicitor. He previously worked at Minster Law Limited (the firm) as an Onboarding Advisor in its Volume Claims department.
On 30 January 2025, Mr Ali was convicted of committing an act or series of acts with intent to pervert the course of public justice. Mr Ali was subsequently sentenced to 41 months imprisonment.
It was found that Mr Ali's conviction meant he had breached Principles 1, 2 and 5 of the SRA Principles 2019.
Although Mr Ali's conviction related to conduct in his private life, it realistically touched on the profession and was serious by reference to the following factors in the SRA Enforcement Strategy: it was deliberate, it interfered with the rule of law and administration of justice, it lacked integrity, and it posed a risk to public confidence in the solicitors' profession and in legal services provided by authorised persons.
Our decision on sanction
Mr Ali's conduct breached relevant duties that applied to him as an employee of the firm, namely Principles 1, 2 and 5 of the SRA Principles.
It was found that it would be undesirable for Mr Ali to act as a head of legal practice, head of finance and administration, a manager or an employee of a body licensed in accordance with section 99 of the Legal Services Act 2007.
Mr Ali was disqualified from holding any of these roles.
Mr Ali was also ordered to pay the SRA's costs of £600.
